Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology

Provides diagnostic right and left heart catheterization, selective coronary angiography, and digital aortic and vascular angiography.

Catheterization Laboratory

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Washington Hospital Center is one of the busiest in the United States. Patients are managed with the most technologically advanced diagnostic tests and treatments for atherosclerosis, using angioplasty, stents (coronary, carotid, and renal), lasers, IVUS, brachytherapy, angiogenesis, and gene therapy. Investigational procedures such as percutaneous closure of ASD and PDA are routinely incorporated into daily clinical practice. With eleven invasive procedure rooms featuring the latest digital imaging equipment, the invasive service has an annual volume of approximately 9,000 coronary diagnostic procedures, 1,500 peripheral diagnostic procedures, 5,000 coronary interventional procedures, and 900 peripheral interventional procedures.

Interventional cardiologists are available 24 hours a day to provide consultations and accept referrals.

Interventional cardiologists can be reached through the main cardiology number (202-444-5111) between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
