Echocardiography

Provides cardiac ultrasound imaging services including:

  • Transthoracic echocardiography
  • Contrast echocardiography
  • Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
  • Intraoperative TEE and epicardial echocardiography
  • Exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
  • Intracoronary echocardiography is performed in conjunction with the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Echocardiography

The Non-Invasive Cardiology Department at the Washington Hospital Center includes electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and stress tests; which together have an annual volume of over 85,000 procedures. The echocardiography laboratory includes M-mode and 2-dimensional ultrasound imaging as well as transesophageal echocardiography. Faculty specialize in the use and evaluation of stress echocardiography, as well as the use of TEE in the cardiac catheterization laboratory and the operating suite to assist other cardiologists and cardiac surgeons during procedures. Physicians are currently focusing on the use of contrast echocardiography to improve the diagnostic accuracy of this technology.
