Director, GUH/WHC Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship Program

The Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship is a combined program between Georgetown University Hospital and the Washington Hospital. This is a two-year Program with an optional third research year that fulfills the Requirements for subspecialty certification set forth by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

During the first year of post-residency training, the fellows see in patient consultations on the clinical wards and care for outpatients

in the Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics at Georgetown University Hospital and at the Washington Hospital Center. Fellows also rotate for 6 weeks through the Inter-Institute Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program of the NationalInstitutes of Health and 2-4 weeks in Pediatric Endocrinology with the National Capital Consortium (consisting of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the National Naval Medical Center, the Malcolm Grow U.S. Air Force Center and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences).

The fellows attend 2-3 half-day clinic sessions per weekduring the first year and continue to see outpatients on alongitudinal basis during the second year. During the first year,each trainee begins a clinical research project under thedirection of the full-time staff. Substantial additional time isavailable in the second year for basic and/or clinical researchprojects. A third year is potentially available for traineesinterested in more intensive research exposure, but depends onthe availability of funding in specific laboratories.

Candidates must have satisfied all requirements for certificationby the American Board of Internal Medicine.
