| Specialty Clinics In addition to the regular Nephrology Outpatient Clinic, there are a number of Specialty Renal Clinics which are now operating. They include: The Renal Hypertension Clinic which is specialized in patients with specific problems related to hypertension and the kidney. This clinic is equipped to run a panel of laboratory, hormonal and noninvasive radiographic studies. Twenty four hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring service, Captopril-renin challenge test, and new “state of the art” Nuclear Magnetic Resonance renovascular studies are provided. Patients scheduled for the clinic are evaluated by Dr Christopher Wilcox, a national and international expert in the area of Hypertension and the Kidney. Metabolic Bone Disease and Renal Osteodistrophy Clinic. The purpose of this clinic is to evaluate patients with specific bone problems with special emphasis on those with Renal Bone Disease. This clinic is equipped to evaluate bone problems with specific test of bone function. Among specific laboratory test of bone function are biological laboratory markers of bone resorption , biological markers of bone formation and evaluation of parathyroid gland function. Non invasive study to evaluate myocardial,coronary arteries and valve calcifications evaluation function is done using a new technique, the Electron Beam Computed Tomography, (EBCT). The EBCT is a extremely fast technique and allows to detect calcifications at a very early stage. This is at a time when therapeutic intervention is usually succesful Bone biopsy, the gold standard to evaluate specific bone problems are performed as an outpatient Procedure. The analysis of bone histology using bone histomorphometry analisis provides the final diagnosis in patients with Renal Bone Disease. The patients scheduled in this clinics are seen by Dr Francisco Llach, nationally and internationally known as an expert in the field. Renal disease and Pregnancy Clinic evaluates pregnant patients with renal probles and hipertension during pregnancy. Special emphasis is placed on detection of renal problems early in pregnacy at a time when appropriate testing and therapeutical intervention is most beneficial to the patient. The patients in this clinic are evaluated by Dr Jason Uman, a well known expert in this field. Diabetic Renal Disease Clinic. This is a new clinic with the goal of early detection of diabetes affectind the kidneys. This is a common complications of diabetes. The available data clearly have shown over the last decade that Diabetic Kidney Disease can be mostly prevented and/or treated succesfully. In a high percent of patients deterioration of renal function by the diabetes process can be stopped or delayed, thus avoiding the use of dialysis. Patients will be seen by Dr Shakil Aslam, one of his major interest is Diabetes and the Kidney. Dr Aslam will be seen the diabetic kidney patients in a close interrelation with the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic. |
