Washington DC - Around Town

Museums:
Located on the Mall between the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian Museums provide Washingtonians and visitors to the city a chance to learn about Natural History, American History, as well as offering a complete look at the Air and Space programs in the U.S. The art collections and special art exhibits of the National Gallery, the Phillips Collection, and the Corcoran Museum of Fine Art are open free to the public, as are all museums in Washington.

Theater: The theater-lover can see Broadway-caliber plays at the National Theater, Ford's Theater, the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, as well as the outdoor pavilion at Wolf Trap in nearby Virginia. In addition, the plays of Shakespeare are routinely performed at the Folger Theater.

National Symphony: In addition to the free concerts during the summer months, one can enjoy this fine symphony during the season at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Parks: Throughout the Washington area, many parks provide a place for recreation. Although the city is very residential, the parks provide well-traveled and protected bike paths along the Potomac and Rock Creek, and fields to play and watch volleyball, softball and polo. A place to picnic is never a problem given the acres occupied by Rock Creek Park, Great Falls Park, and the miles along the C & O Canal.

Sports: With its own professional basketball, hockey, and football teams, the sports enthusiast can easily keep occupied in Washington, D.C. The high-caliber Georgetown Basketball Team has been an enjoyable and exciting part of the Big East Conference since its beginning.
