How long is the program?
The combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program at Georgetown University Hospital, like all Med-Peds programs, is four-years in duration.
How long is the intern year?
We utilize three-month blocks, with each resident spending three one-month rotations in each department (i.e. Medicine) before switching to the other (i.e. Pediatrics). Each post-graduate year consists of six months of Medicine and six months of Pediatrics (two three-month blocks). As such, the Med-Peds intern year at Georgetown University Hospital is 12 months long.
Do you have a night float?
Most of the ward rotations in both the Medicine and Pediatrics departments have instituted some form of float system.
Do you have a dedicated Med-Peds clinic?
Georgetown University has sponsored a combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics clinic since 1999. We believe this is a valuable asset of our program. In addition, residents have the opportunity to work in both departments' clinics during their training.
How do I apply?
We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). For more information, see our Application Process page.
Is the interview one or two days?
We will be offering one-day interviews for the 2006-2007 academic year on Tuesday's and Friday's.
Isn't living in Washington expensive?
Washington, DC is less expensive than other major cities in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, such as New York and Boston. Our residents are able to find affordable housing, both in the city as well as in the surrounding Northern Virginia and Maryland suburbs. While housing can cost more than in some other cities, Washington provides many affordable (often free!) cultural and entertainment opportunities.
