Georgetown University Hospital 2006-2007 Resident Salaries
The following is a list of projected stipends for Georgetown House Staff for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Terms of House Staff
Appointment
All training appointment agreements are binding for
one year. The appointment is contingent upon receipt of verification of
graduation from medical school or applicable credentialing documentation and
verification, as well as all components set forth in the Policy for Selection of
House Staff.
Conditions of House Staff Appointment
House Staff Member acknowledges and agrees that in order to assure optimal
patient care is being provided to patients, as a condition of an appointment and
for its continuation, the house staff member shall undergo and satisfactorily
complete a pre-employment physical examination consistent with the hospital
policy. If the physical examination reveals any physical or mental disorder that
would prevent the house staff member from completing the essential duties of the
position and reasonable accommodation cannot be made, the appointment may be
terminated. An annual physical examination may be required by the Hospital.
Health Insurance
Employees may chose the CareFirst Blue Choice POS Health Plan or Kaiser
Permanente Select HMO.
The "Point of Service" or "POS" program allows members to obtain medical services in-network or out-of-network whenever they wish. Out of pocket costs are determined by the choice you make when services are rendered.
The traditional HMO allows members to obtain medical services with participating providers located in Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia. Many in-network services are covered at 100% with the remainder calling for a minimal copayment.
Both plans require the selection of a primary care physician, (PCP).
Single, Employee+One, or Family coverage is available.
Coverage starts on the first day of work as long as the employee has completed enrollment within thirty days after your date of hire.
The employee and the hospital share the cost of the plan.

Dental Insurance
There are 3 plan options available: Cigna PPO Option 1 (Basic), Option II
(Comprehensive) and Aetna DMO (100% coverage with a small copay when you use a
network dentist). You must designate an Aetna Dentist.
Single, Employee + One, or Family coverage is available.
Coverage starts on the first day of work as long as the employee has completed enrollment within thirty 30 days after your date of hire.
The employee and the hospital share the cost of the plan.

Vision Care
Employees may choose to participate in the Allied EyeCare plan. The plan
provides comprehensive vision benefits from a network of providers.

EyeMed is available to all employees at no cost. This plan provides discounts on
covered services through participating Lens Crafters.
Life Insurance
GUH provides employees with Basic Life Insurance equal to one times your annual
base pay up to a combined (basic and supplemental) maximum of $1,000,000. Your
coverage will be rounded up to the next higher $1,000. This coverage is provided
for free.
Supplemental Life Insurance coverage is available in amounts equal to one, two, or three times your base pay, up to a combined (basic and supplemental) maximum of $1,000,000. The amount of total life coverage is rounded up to the next higher $1,000.
Coverage for supplemental life starts on the first day of work as long as the employee has completed enrollment within thirty days after the date of hire.
If you do not enroll when eligible you will be required to provide evidence of insurability. Tax -Shelter Annuity Plan (TSA)
Employees may have pre-tax voluntary retirement contributions deducted from paychecks.
Contributions may be invested in a wide variety of funds through TIAA-CREF, The Vanguard Group and Fidelity Investments.
Employees may start contributing toward this plan at any time.
Employees are responsible for the entire cost of this plan.
Flexible Spending Accounts
The GUH program includes two flexible spending accounts (FSA's) that let you use
tax-free dollars to pay for certain medical and dependent care expenses.
Health Care Spending Account
Each calendar year employees may put aside up to $5,000 of pre-tax salary to
cover out-of-pocket health and dental care expenses, such as co-pays and
deductibles.
Dependent Care Spending
Account
Each calendar year employees may put aside up to $5,000 of pre-tax salary to
cover out-of-pocket dependent and elder care expense.
Employee Assistance Program
Professional counseling is available for personal or health problems including;
stress, family conflicts, grief, alcohol or substance abuse, financial,
depression, anxiety, chronic illnesses, and legal problems. Career counseling is
also available. You may contact Menninger at 1-800-448-4434 24 hours a day, 7
days a week.
Family and Medical Leave
Our family leave program enables an employee to take an unpaid leave of absence
to care for a seriously ill family member, or child within the first year of
birth, adoption or foster care placement. Employees may use the leave for their
own serious health conditions, which will run concurrently with the short-term
disability benefits.
Note: Employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are considered
full-time employees.
Employees on any unpaid leave should make arrangements with the Benefits Office
to pay for their insurance premiums while out.
Legal Plan
Employees may elect group legal coverage, which provides access to a network of
attorneys who deliver legal services via telephone or office visit.
Participating employees pay $9 biweekly or $18 a month and may access the
program as often as necessary.
Bank of America
Employees can enroll in Bank of America at Work Benefits. Services include:
checking accounts and discounts, online banking, fixed rate IRA's, CD's,
mortgages, etc. To learn more, please call 1(800) 782-2265.
Credit Union
Employees are eligible for membership in the Georgetown University Credit Union
upon employment. The Credit union has an on-campus location and direct deposit
and low interest loans are available. Their number is 687-4841.
Yates Field House
An on-site athletic recreational complex is available to staff and their
families with a low-cost membership fee. For more information contact Yates at
687-2400.
Metro Check
The Metro Check program has been established to assist employees who commute to
and from work by public transportation. This voluntary benefit is offered on a
pre-tax basis, and employees may deduct a maximum of up to $100 per month for
commuting expenses.
What is covered? Metro Rail, Marc Train, Transfers and Metro Bus.

Malpractice Liability Coverage
According to the rules and regulations to the hospital. Medstar Health covers
House Staff for professional liability. The institution provides professional
liability coverage in amounts not less than 1 million dollars per incident and 3
million dollars annual aggregate for services rendered during training.
Disability Insurance:
Long-Term Disability is designed to ensure a continuing income for employees who
are disabled and unable to work due to an illness or injury that results in a
long-term absence. The benefit is 66 2/3 % of salary up to $2,000 per month.
Short-Term Disability (STD) is designed to ensure continuing income for those House Staff who are unable to work due to a non-work related injury or illness. Eligible employees may participate in the STD plan subject to all terms and conditions of the agreement between Georgetown University Hospital and the insurance carrier.
STD is available for full-time House Staff and is available the first day of the month following 6 months of employment. You are covered on the first day for an accident and after a 7 day waiting period for an illness. The STD program replaces 60% of salary up to 180 days at no cost to you.
Note: Disabilities arising from
pregnancy or pregnancy-related illness are treated the same as any other illness
that prevents an employee from working.
