National Academy of Medicine Inducts Merenstein

(October 29, 2025) — Georgetown’s Dan Merenstein, MD, was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) on Saturday, October 18. He was elected to the academy in 2024 In recognition of his dedication to primary care research. Academy president Victor J. Dzau (H’25) welcomed him at the induction ceremony.

As a tenured professor and director of research programs in the Department of Family Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Merenstein has published hundreds of research papers, many focused on the appropriate use of antibiotics and probiotics, as well as a long-running HIV cohort study. He is also a professor of human science in the School of Health, where he teaches undergraduate students and strives to help educate future clinicians on understanding how to critically evaluate scientific evidence. Fewer than 100 academics are admitted to the academy each year, with new members selected by their peers in recognition of outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.
