Overview

Georgetown University Hospital offers a one-year training program in advanced endoscopy starting July 1 of each academic year. Since its inception in 1990, the program has graduated numerous successful academic and practicing endoscopists with expertise in advanced endoscopic techniques. Individuals are appointed for one year as a junior attending at Georgetown University Hospital (GUH) and are expected to participate in ongoing clinical research projects during their year of training.

The program is focused on training in Pancreatobiliary disease diagnosis and interventions and include training in both ERCP (Diagnostic and therapeutic including Sphincter of Oddi manometry, pCLE, PDT, cholangiopancreatoscopy, pseudocyst drainage, single-balloon enteroscopy-assisted ERCP, etc.) and endoscopic ultrasound. Approximately 750 ERCPs and 900 endoscopic ultrasounds are performed each year at GUH. In addition to the above opportunities, training in other luminal procedures including GI stenting, EMR, pneumatic dilation and confocal probe exams is also available.
