Fellowship Application Process: Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism


Thank you for your interest in the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital – Washington Hospital Center Fellowship Training Program in Endocrinology.

Our program has adopted the APDEM Recommendations for 2020-21 Recruitment: APDEM Recommended Interview Plan for the 2020 Recruitment Season. (new window) Consistent with these recommendations, we have committed to 100% virtual interviews/visits for all applicants in the 2020 recruitment season.

This is a two-year program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education that fulfills the requirements for sub-specialty certification set forth by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Training in Endocrinology is offered to physicians who have completed an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency and are Board eligible in Internal Medicine.

MedStar will sponsor applicants with J-1 visas.

You should apply for the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at Georgetown University Hospital through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). ERAS is an internet-based applications process developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges to transmit fellowship applications, letters of recommendation, Program Director letters, medical transcripts and other supporting credentials from applicants, residency programs and medical schools to fellowship program directors using the Internet. Upon receiving the applications through ERAS, Georgetown will contact candidates about the possibility of an interview. Interviews will be scheduled between August to October. Approximately 20 – 25 individuals will be interviewed for 2-3 positions.

Endocrinology participates in the National Resident Matching Program’s Medical Specialties Matching Program (MSMP). This is a computerized venue for matching an applicant’s program preferences with the program directors’ preferences for applicants. Important Dates for July 2021 cycle applicants

1. ERAS Application Process opens July 15, 2020.
2. Application Dates: July – August.
    We download applications beginning August 15 (as soon as ERAS opens for programs). Applicants will begin to be notified regarding interviews at the end of August.
3. Interviews will be scheduled between September – October.
4. Registration for NRMP Match List opens August 26, 2020.
5. NRMP Rank order list deadline: November 18, 2020.
6. NRMP Match Day: December 2, 2020.
7. Fellows begin their training programs: July 5, 2021.
