Combined Program, Dermatology & Internal Medicine

The MGUH/WHC Medical-Dermatology Residency Program is a unique training opportunity. Jointly sponsored by the departments of internal medicine and dermatology, the five-year program provides residents with a comprehensive and integrated education in both these disciplines, enabling them to best manage complex medical and dermatologic illnesses. Graduates of the program are board eligible for certification in internal medicine and dermatology. The internal medicine and dermatology residency programs are both ACGME accredited and the combined program has been approved by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Dermatology.
Combined residency training in internal medicine and dermatology is designed to permit the acquisition of knowledge and experience across both disciplines that will aid in the care of patients with complex medical and dermatologic illnesses. This includes, but is not limited to, the management of autoimmune and blistering disorders, cutaneous vasculidities, lymphomas, other unusual cutaneous tumors, severe dermatoses requiring toxic immuno-modulatory therapies, as well as the recognition of the dermatologic manifestations and implications of systemic diseases. This combined training will prepare internists and dermatologists for careers in clinical practice or on academic faculties as specialists in the broad spectrum of adult illness shared by internal medicine and dermatology.
